What is this project?

This never-before-seen project involves 200 participants from two distanced nations: China and Canada.

The idea of the project is to present a century of life in a visualized scale and explores the very nature of happiness as it applies to one's culture and as it applies to each individual.
More than just a glimpse into the life of each person, it presents a process of inspiration and self-realization about what has been missing in our daily life,
about the importance of pursuing our dreams and about the definitions of happiness from two distinct cultures.

The implementation commenced with finding 100 people across each country, each one born in each year of the past century (aged consecutively from 0-99).
A multi-media portrait was taken of each participant and was presented in three ways: a photographic portrait, a textual portrait and a video portrait.
The photographical portrait was taken under consistent style in their own familiar surroundings to show the person in a moment of life.
Then a taped interview was conducted, asking the same set of questions for these 200 participants about one's life path, about dreams and about perceptions of the meaning of happiness and success.
The textual portrait is the transcript from the video interview with a focus on the same set of specific questions. It encapsulates how the person got to their current state.

At the end, materials will be edited and presented in the following forms in the near future:
- a photography book.
- an art exhibition which will exhibit internationally.
- a multi-media documentary.

Works from:

China:
In year 2010, I spent eight months traveling my homeland - China to finish the first part of project.

Canada:
Year 2011, started from June 28th,
I teamed up with Vancouver based reporter Eric Szeto and designer Champagne Choquer on the Canadian part of the project.
Although we only worked together for 30 days, it's their support to help me having a great start.
For the rest 5 month trip across Canada, I worked with my wife Andrea, finding / interviewing people in different cities.
The project was completed on Dec 9th 2011.
